In an inspiring interview on N2PlusTV’s N2Plus Spotlight, Vanessa Gyan, a renowned philanthropist, delved into her remarkable efforts to support and empower low-income mothers through her initiative, the Post-pregnancy Boujee Express. The show’s host Nuella Sante engaged Vanessa in a heartfelt conversation about her journey and the impact of her work.
Host: Now let’s talk about your philanthropic work. You are championing women, especially mothers. Could you tell us about some of the things you have done to sustain and empower these women?
Vanessa Gyan: Sure. We launched my initiative, the Post-pregnancy Boujee Express, in 2017. It focuses on supporting mothers from low-income families and educating them. We visit various hospitals to educate women on the importance of prenatal and postnatal care. We also provide them with amazing gift bags filled with products and cover their discharge bills. We have been doing this since 2017. Additionally, we organize free baby showers for these women every year. The discharging support is available year-round, and we hold two main events, usually in May and December. The baby showers take place among these events. It’s really about supporting mothers and families from low-income backgrounds as best as we can.
Vanessa’s initiative has become a beacon of hope for many mothers who often face significant challenges during and after pregnancy. By offering both practical support and educational resources, the Post-pregnancy Boujee Express has touched the lives of thousands of women.
Host: Do you get any of them coming back?
Vanessa Gyan: Sometimes I’ll be somewhere randomly, and they’ll come up to me and say, “Do you remember me?” There are so many women that sometimes I can’t remember them all because there have been thousands at this point. They’ll mention, for example, “I was at the polyclinic, and you came and gave back.” How does that make you feel?
Vanessa’s face lit up as she responded, illustrating the emotional connection she shares with the women she helps.
Vanessa Gyan: I mean, it feels good because that’s why I do it. I do it so that they can feel good and know that someone cares about them.
