In the wake of severe disruptions to power supply caused by the collapse of three transmission pylons in the Western Region of Ghana, the Western Regional Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has moved swiftly to address the issue and restore electricity to affected communities.
Since Tuesday, April 23, nine communities in the vicinity of Shama and Daboase have been grappling with power outages following the destructive aftermath of a heavy rainstorm. The damage to the transmission infrastructure, particularly the pylons along the Ketan BSP stretch up to the Inchaban sub-station, has left residents in Inchaban, Shama, Nyankrom, Komfueku, Dwomo, Daboase, Beposo, Sekyere Krobo, Anlo Beach, and surrounding areas without electricity.
In response to the crisis, Engineer Martin Djan, the Sekondi District Manager of the ECG, provided assurance to affected customers during an inspection of the restoration efforts at Essipon. He emphasized the company’s commitment to expedite the repair process and ensure the prompt resumption of power supply.
“Yesterday we had a severe challenge that had to do with the breaking down of three of our out pylons on the Ketan BSP stretch up to Inchaban sub-station because of heavy downpour,” Engineer Djan stated. “We have more of our communities down at the moment without power… Currently, we are doing our maximum best to restore power, so what I have done is to contract three of my best contractors who are currently on site.”
Furthermore, Engineer Djan reassured the affected communities that concerted efforts were underway to rectify the situation, with a target of restoring power within 24 hours. He expressed confidence in the capabilities of the engineering team and the support of contracted workers to expedite the restoration process.
“We have planned that within 24 hours we should be able to bring back the power so that our customers can enjoy power,” Engineer Djan affirmed, underscoring the urgency with which the ECG is addressing the issue.
The affected communities, including Inchaban, Shama, Nyankrom, Komfueku, Dwomo, Daboase, Beposo, Sekyere Krobo, Anlo Beach, and neighboring areas, have been urged to exercise patience as the ECG endeavors to resolve the power outage promptly.
As the restoration works progress, the ECG has advised residents to prioritize safety measures and refrain from tampering with electrical installations or attempting unauthorized repairs.
The swift response by the Western Regional ECG to mitigate the impact of the transmission infrastructure damage underscores the company’s commitment to delivering reliable and uninterrupted electricity services to communities across the region. With the concerted efforts of its engineering team and contracted personnel, the ECG remains dedicated to restoring power to the affected communities and minimizing disruptions to daily life and economic activities.
